LiveKit is an open-source real-time platform designed for building voice, video, and multimodal AI applications. It’s widely used for applications like AI voice assistants, livestreaming, and robotics.

LiveKit was created by Russ d’Sa and David Zhao. They build LiveKit and decided to open source it when they “found that there was not anything open source that made it easy to build real-time audio and video applications, which many were working on during the pandemic to accommodate our transition into a more virtual life.”

This month, LiveKit closed a $45 million series B round, bringing its total funding to $83 million.
